Benefits of Facial Massages

Who doesn’t love a good massage?  At the end of our treatment, our body is relaxed and our spirit is rejuvenated.  Yet one part of our body that gets overlooked is our face.  While it’s true that our body holds tension, our face shows it.  For most of us, it never even occurs to us to get a face massage outside of a facial.  So, now the question is, why should I get one?

 

There are many types of facial massages, each with its own unique flow and technique.  From lymphatic to acupressure to the classic facial massage the goal is to promote healthier looking skin.  By relaxing the muscles; tension and fluid is drained while blood flow is increased.  This brings more oxygen and nutrients to the cells which keeps them healthy.

 

Anti-aging is the most common reason we want our face rejuvenated.  Performed with the fingertips, palms and knuckles a series of techniques are used to give your face a “lifted” look.  Motions are used to encourage collagen production, drain the puffiness from under the eyes and reoxygenate the skin.  The end results will lead to a decrease of overall tension and fatigue while restoring the radiance to dull skin.

 

Sinusitis (swelling of the sinus that stems from allergies or from the common cold) can lead to many painful conditions.  With pressure point or acupressure massage, drainage of the sinus is promoted which reduces pain and discomfort.  By letting blocked fluid and blood flow, issues such as sinus pain, congestion and headaches may be alleviated.  However, if you suffer acute pain, it is advisable to seek professional help.  These massages are not a final fix but certainly a welcome respite from the heaviness in your head.

 

Lymphatic massage encourages the movement of lymph fluids (clear fluids made of white blood cells that move waste and toxins through the body).  This massage is slightly different from a more classic massage.  The goal is not to manipulate the muscles, only the skin.  Yet with the slow pace and gentle touch this treatment is deeply relaxing.  This massage can improve circulation, reduce swelling and smooths the feature.

 

Facial massages are an amazing way to take care of the skin on your face.  It is recommended to get a facial massage once every 4-6 weeks.  If you are practicing at home, 2-3 times a week is the recommended dose.  Maybe you will even find that you enjoy it so much, that it will become part of your regular routine (a gentle massage everyday for 5-10 minutes does no harm to your skin).  Make it fun by incorporating tools such as rollers or a gua sha stone.  The ways to relax and rejuvenate your face are endless.
