Dermaplaning

A non-evasive technique similar to shaving but is far more precise. Using light, feathery strokes, a sterile surgical blade is used for dermaplaning treatment in Vancouver to remove vellus hair (peach fuzz) on your skin. This is a deep exfoliation that removes the top layer of the skin, also known as the epidermis and surface imperfections. The skin will instantly look brighter and smoother since oil buildup, dirt and grime is also being removed.

Who is the ideal candidate?

Those with aging, dry, rough or uneven skin tone. This treatment also helps those with acne scars, fine lines and superficial hyperpigmentation. After the exfoliation, collagen is produced in the treated area and which creates firmer looking skin while elastin helps with the elasticity. Both proteins help diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. This regeneration of skin also brings forth healthy and less pigmented cells.

The procedure is not ideal for oily skin type or those with active acne. Sensitized skin such as those with sunburnt or flaring rosacea breakout or an inflammatory skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis, should also avoid this treatment.

How long will that last and how often can I receive this treatment?

The result of the improvements to skin texture is immediate but are not permanent. While this treatment is effective to make the appearance of your skin more youthful, dermaplaning increases cellular turnover. This treatment removes approximately 21 days worth of dead skin and typically last about three weeks. It is important to let your skin rejuvenate, so maintenance treatments are generally done monthly.

Final note

While there is no down time to this treatment, you may experience mild redness but this will quickly improve. While the utmost care will be taken, there are risks of small knicks and scratches since the surface of the skin is uneven and may not be visible until the following day. However they are small and superficial as the pressure used cannot cause a deep cut. These nicks and scrapes can heal within 24-48 hours.
